Not for Wall Mount! February 5, 2010 Carrie Nelson (West Richland, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this, needing a replacement wall phone with large Caller ID. I just installed it and now regret getting it. The CID display is directional, and designed for a desktop. If you look at it straight-on you can barely see it, having to crouch down and look up to read it. CID display lettering is very blocky and crude. There is no indicator light, as we had on our previous phone, that blinks to let us know someone had called while we were away. The face is also curved for a desktop, so when you wall-mount it the lower part curves down and inward making you, yet again, crouch down to use it. In addition the ringer is very shrill and annoying.
I would love to get my money back, but since it came from a source outside of Amazon, it is non-returnable now that it has been opened.
Guess all I can do is to get a few token dollars back selling it on eBay.
GE Big Button wall telephone January 2, 2010 Charles E. Lefort 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the second one of these phones I've purchased. The only problem with it is that the receiver is a little hard to replace in the cradle, causing it to hit the floor frequently -- a design flaw, in my opinion. That's what happened to the first phone. If it happens again, I'll look for a different phone.
good phone for low-vision people, good value December 1, 2009 LesBaldy (Maryland) I ordered this phone for my elderly mother who is low-vision and low-dexterity. It's a good phone for the price. Easy to set up and easy to use. Inputting the speed dial numbers was very easy. Phone has easy to read screen, speakerphone, volume control etc. It's not a very fancy phone but simplicity was what I was looking for, and this fit the bill.
intelligently designed product November 12, 2009 Discerning Listener (New York City) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Even though I wasn't looking for big number dialing, this phone had everything else I was looking for in a desk phone (and at a great price) and now I'm enjoying the ease of dialing with those large buttons! Even better and unexpected is the ability to dial the number without picking up the receiver or using speakerphone, thus leaving one hand free to point at the printed number source! I also love the back-lit display and find the viewing angle to be excellent. Obviously considerable attention was given to designing a user-friendly product. And the absence of batteries is a real blessing!
I haven't had any trouble with the receiver placement since the first time when I realized that I have to pick-up with a slight motion up/away & replace with a similar downward motion because of the small "hook" for wall use (perhaps this could be made retractable for desk use?); the shape of the receiver is very comfortable in my hand. The "twittering" hi or lo ring tone is a pleasure after my old unadjustable one that sent me jumping right out of my seat! The hi/lo/off ring control is, like most, placed on the rear and therefore out of sight. I turn mine off every night so it would be easier if the switch was located on the front with other controls.
Speed dialing number storage is not of the most convenient design, but it works fine, though you have to scroll through all 13 listings to find the one you want; I prefer the visable index design but you can't have everything! The only reason I knocked off one star for appearance is because that particular shade of blue accent color still offends my sensibilies each time I see it!
Otherwise, highly recommended.
it suits our needs June 7, 2009 P. J. Barker (Cypress, CA USA) PROS: We bought this to replace an ancient desk phone that finally died...wanted a corded phone with Caller ID and Call Waiting ID capabilities.
CONS: Voices sound a bit "hollow" even when you have it on lowest volume level. And we wish the it had an "in use" light so you wouldn't accidently pick up the receiver while someone else is already on the phone in another room (our two much older phone sets have this feature). Didn't need the Big Buttons (they are huge) but this phone set came the closest to having what we wanted plus it's by a well known company.
